Hi, I'm Kristin.

Your wedding will be one of the most important and memorable days of your life! You will want to relax and enjoy every moment when it arrives. Leading up to your wedding day, lots of planning must be done. Planning a wedding can be both exciting and overwhelming. When you think about all of the details you must consider—from the venue and catering to the decorations and floral arrangements—it might leave you wondering where even to begin. Creating a wedding mood board is a practical way to organize and visualize your ideas and inspiration and to make sure that all the aspects of your big day come together cohesively. In this blog post, we’ll explore what wedding mood boards are, how to create one, and where you can find inspiration for your wedding mood board. Let’s dive in!

What Are Wedding Mood Boards?

To start, let’s look at what a wedding mood board is: Wedding mood boards are visual collages that highlight the colors, textures, and overall mood of your dream wedding. You can add things like color swatches, photos of reception decorations, bouquets, and wedding invitation inspiration to your mood board. Some couples create a physical mood board with photos and magazine clippings, but most create a digital one for their wedding inspiration. One way to use your wedding mood board is to communicate your vision for your big day to your wedding vendors, like your wedding planner, florist, and venue coordinator.

How to Create a Mood Board

Ready to create a wedding mood board? It’s simple! Start with these steps to begin:

  1. Gather ideas + inspiration:

First, you’ll want to start by gathering inspiration from wedding magazines, Pinterest, and Instagram for your wedding day. You may already have some images saved to Pinterest boards, but since your taste can change, go through old boards and make updates. Save or screenshot colors, floral arrangements, dresses, or anything else that catches your eye. Another great place to find inspiration is from wedding photographers! They have thousands of images of real weddings, so check out their portfolio or Instagram posts for ideas.

  1. Choose a platform:

Decide how you will put your wedding mood board together by choosing a platform. Some couples simply start with a Pinterest board, while others will take their favorite images and inspiration and insert them into a single board using a tool like Canva, Shuffles, or Adobe Spark. If you prefer to create a physical mood board, find a corkboard, poster board, or foam board to gather inspiration.

  1. Organize your images:

Now that you have inspiration images and selected a platform, it’s time to create your board! Sort through your images and choose your very favorite ideas. Then, start arranging them however you like. One way to organize your images is to have your colors in one section, ceremony inspiration in another, etc.

  1. Add details:

Add details that fill in gaps or missing elements as your wedding mood board starts to come to life. Make sure you have text with fonts you love, quotes that describe the vibe of your dream wedding, and textures that add luxury to your mood board!
